You may have seen this saying on a shirt or a bumper sticker somewhere in the past. What does it mean?
Masonry is steeped in traditions. One of them is that we are not supposed to ask anyone to join. If I ask you to do something, you may feel obliged to do it. Masonry only wants men to come of their own free will and accord. They can not come because they have been forced or manipulated in any way.
Masonry is very complex and profound. It means many different things to its many different members. One of the things Masonry tries to do is answer that question of all questions, "Who am I and why am I here?" So you can see that every person will not have the same answer to this question. As you progress in Masonry you will meet many other members with similar idea and many with opposing ideas.
